The Gift of a New Day: Day 2

Day 2: The Gift of a New Day

21 days of Gratitude: Awakening the Heart.

I woke up this morning filled with tension about going to work at the school library, because on Monday and Tuesday it’s a tiring situation, with an overburdened schedule. I picked up this poem below, and in my prayer time I invited the words to sink in.

Prayer for Presence

by -J. Philip Newell

In the gift of this new day
In the gift of this present moment
In the gift of time and eternity intertwined

Let us be thankful
Let us be attentive
Let us be open to what has never happened before.

In the gift of this new day
In the gift of this present moment
In the gift of time and eternity intertwined.

In Angeles Arrien’s book, Living in Gratitude, she writes: While gratitude is both a feeling and an attitude, thankfulness is the demonstrative expression of it, whether extended to ourselves or others.

Can we see our day as a gift? For today, let’s practice thankfulness to ourselves and to others. I will be  more conscious about saying thank you throughout my day: to myself for being patient at work, and to the children for listening.

Gratitude Journal for Day 2:

  • Take few deeper breaths and settle in.
  •  Open your heart in gratitude.
  • List 5 to 10 things you are grateful for today.
